On February 15, 1-3pm, our mixologists will lead you & your valentine through an amaro tasting like no other- a fun & unique way to spend your Saturday afternoon. Each amaro will be paired with small bites from the kitchen.
What is Amaro?
Amaro is the Italian word for “bitter.” This herbal, bitter-sweet liqueur is typically drank alone/over ice as a digestif, but can also be found in a multitude of cocktails. It is created by infusing a base alcohol with a blend of macerated herbs, roots, flowers, barks, & spices. That mixture will sit for a few days before the liquid is strained out. After that it is aged, but never for a long period of time. Amaro’s history dates back to ancient Rome, but started to become more popular in the 1800s.
While there are 50+ brands of popular amaro available for purchase, there are many more amari types that have stayed within the families- where the recipe for amaro is just as much a secret as Nonna’s sunday gravy recipe.
Popular Brands of Amaro:
- Fernet Branca
- Campari
- Aperol
- Cynar
- Amaro Nonino
- Cardamaro
- Luxardo Amaro Abano
